Recording Tip

When you have a big project to record, break it into manageable chunks. Don’t try to record for longer than about 20 good minutes. Then it’s time for a stretch and a tall glass of water.

If your recording will span days, make notes on three key items.

1. Your hardware/software settings for the mic and recording software.

2. The location of your mic as well as your physical location in relation to it.

3. The layout of your space. If the door is open or closed (including the closet door!), whether the curtain is drawn over the window, the piles (or lack thereof) on your desk.

Making these notes allow you to replicate conditions for your next recording session, which produces similar results. Similar results makes editing easier and faster and a better finished product.
